Eastmarch was a base founded in late 2016 and lasted over seven years before being griefed in mid 2024, giving it the distinction of being the single longest-lasting continuously inhabited base in 2b2t history.

History

Foundation

Eastmarch was founded on October 10, 2016 by GanjMeisterBlock, Master_Builder, and X_Azrael_X. They initially traveled to the location on foot and largely through open Nether as they traveleled there before the creation of highways in the area. To facilitate easier access, they brought C4RTM4N into the base group in order to utilize his BedTP exploit to create a bed chain to the site. He otherwise did not play at the base, but caused many accounts to be brought out. While BedTPing alts there, there was a mishap bringing one of X_Azrael_X's accounts to the location which resulted in the chunks at (7278700 , -1668700) Nether being generated. They attempted to bring additional accounts to turn the deep nether location into a stash but were unsuccessful.

Initial Construction

Following the 11/11 dupe in November 2016, Eastmarch became well-stocked with materials, greatly increasing the speed of construction of the base. The base also hosted one of the first functioning autofarm perimeters on 2b2t, built by Ganjmeisterblock, which further contributed to stores of materials there. During this time, some members became involved with the 2b2t Creative Mode Project, which meant the base slowed for a time as GanjMeisterBlock met Slappnbadkids and co-founded Block Game Mecca with him, bringing along Master_Builder as well. Progress at Eastmarch continued, however, with Ganjmeisterblock building more farms, and X_Azrael_X constructing the base's centerpiece - a castle with statues of winged skeletons flanking the front.

Post-BGM

After the grief of BGM, GanjMeisterBlock invited Joey_Coconut to the base, although he only arrived later. Ganj subsequently played significantly less from 2019 onwards, especially after the base was visited by an anonymous player who left many signs on its builds. He passed the base to Joey_Coconut for safekeeping, who visited a year and a half later in 2021 along with smcz19, Drathader, and rfresh2 to move the outlying stashes after Smil and then BIKMUNNI found the main area and moved the main stash.[1] Joey continued building small structures and repairing damage around the base from fire due to lightning after fire spread was re-enabled. Many more visitors arrived over the following years, totaling over two-dozen before its eventual grief, including but not limited to: Smil, BIKMUNNI, Drathader, refresh2, dekto, stankerz, Skai256, Connor16892, maliktheking, jackafa, Corbin2003, and many others. This semi-regular discovery of the base also led to the base becoming a recruiting location for basehunters to join Astral Brotherhood, Joey's group. Eastmarch also avoided detection via Nocom and Randar despite this activity because it was so spread out.

Grief

The base was griefed on July 17, 2024 by RPG2b2t after he found the location basehunting. He was initially unaware of what the base was and had simply griefed it for fun, later attempting to use the grief for name recognition upon finding out its significance following negative reactions from the others that had previously found the base, many of whome were long-term basehunters in the Journeymen server, where he'd originally posted it.[2][3]

Security

At the start of the base, the members used an elaborate and far-sighted security plan which preserved the base long term. This plan included portal skips, chunktrail management, and a checkpoint travel system - before chunktrailing was widely known. Between this plan and many other factors (such as the small base group, disabling of Elytra for years, distance from spawn, and later scarcity of activity through Nocom and Randar), it resulted in a base that was able to stay secure through years of changing base-hunting metas. After the base was initially found by Smil and then BIKMUNNI shortly thereafter, the increase in chunktrail activity brought more and more basehunters over time, eventually causing the system to fail and resulting in over two dozen different visitors to the base.
