The Sanctuary was a very unique base on 2b2t it was started by Tangoooooooo. What makes this base unique was the variety of the players that based there and how close it was to spawn and the fact that it survived so long with multiple world downloads, coordinate exploits, and so on.

History

Foundation

The Sanctuary was founded on March 5th, 2020 by Tangoooooooo for the New Facepunch Republic but it wasn't called that though, at the time it was called Salvation Outpost. It started off as a simple spawn base that could be used to group members if they needed a place to stay and re-gear near spawn. It would lay mostly dormant receiving the occasional group member visiting such as OMEGAO000 and Darth08. It serve as a New Facepunch Republic base until the group disbanded in November of 2021. After the group disbanded progress on the base began to increase exponentially. Players such as xcc2 and OverFloyd would be invited followed by Jeffrey_214 & Thrashin, and not long after Joey_Coconut, digandbuilder, and D_loaded and Others like the Spawn Masons, Winechild, came on their own accord. It became a base where players from all across the server with varying personalities could come together and build in peace.

Construction

Tangoooooooo did most of the building constructing the main structure, walls, animal pens, railway system, underwater snow globe, Ice Town, Emperium Embassy, Mini replica of Fiskie's Tower, and the nearby Ice Town. Darh08 built a replica of a pyramid he saw at an old base called "Aria", a ravine city, and a floating Island. xcc2 brought life to the Arch Park by adding as many plants and trees he could fit within it. He also built an Egg farm, and brought maparts to the base and put them on display. xcc2 also provided the iconic base banner. OverFloyd built an auto-fish farm with banners and a tree farm. Joey_Coconut built his signature giant mushroom build. D_loaded built his Applewood Tavern on the side of the base. Javazon built his castle which was known as Java's Palace and WineChild built his signature wine bottle and brought cherry blossom trees to the base.

Griefs & Reconstruction

The Base suffered its first grief by The_Grand_Lotus on February 4th, 2022 he mainly used end crystals and withers so the damage was mostly contained. The base was rebuilt not long after by Tangoooooooo, Jeffrey_214, and Thrashin. More structures were added around the base around this time such as the Ice town, Railway system, and the Floating Island. Not much happened for the rest of the year as most of the members went off to do their own thing. The Next grief would come almost 1 year later on February 2nd, 2023 by the player WinterCast due to some drama with the Backstreet Boys. However the damage was minimal much like the previous grief. So xcc2 & Tangoooooooo repaired the base once again. A week later on the 9th of February the base is griefed again by Wintercast with TNT and Withers. The damage was extensive. Tangoooooooo at this time was pretty burned out and needed a change of pace so he went off to create a new base. xcc2 would go to one of his other bases while Tangoooooooo stayed behind at the ungriefed sections of the base to salvage what was left such as the Ice Town section until its 3 year anniversary on March 8th, 2022 before abandoning it. Eventually after a couple months Tangoooooooo returned to the base to rebuild it once again, as WinterCast had not been seen on the server in a while. This time he was on my own. I killed some of the withers and lead the rest away from the base. Then began reconstruction most of the base members had either quit or moved on to do other things. xcc2 did come by and kill some of the withers left over but couldn’t stay for long. It took weeks of dedication to fill the crater with blocks and begin reconstruction on the base eventually during the reconstruction process Tangoooooooo noticed a old player online and active in chat that had not been seen in a while “Javazon” and struck up a conversation with him remembering him from 2b2t history and fastvincent videos. They ended up adding each other on steam and talking about 2b2t and Javazon shared with me some of his old screenshots of bases such as Kaamtown before he destroyed them. Around this time Hausemaster updates the server to 1.19 and the terrain around the base gets updated with random newly generated chunks. By this point in reconstruction had been about 80% of the base so Tangoooooooo decided to take a risk and invite Javazon to the base. Tangoooooooo met him when he arrived and he and they ended up becoming friends. We began work on a house in the swamp but not long after disaster struck. While we were building at the base Hausemaster caved to the community backlash to the 1.19 update and he ended up rolling back the server. This caused our progress to reverted and it was as if Javazon never even set foot on the base. Eventually he made his way back to the base (again) and we decided on a new build this time his own “Java’s Palace” A Castle like build based in the village Savannah Biome nearby The base stood tall after everything even the Spawn Masons showed up it was probably the biggest open secret to the community. On April 15th, 2025 5 years after its creation it was completely nuked by the player Joson after stumbling across the base. It was griefed so heavily that rebuilding it just wasn't worth it anymore. One day while everyone was offline Javazon had returned to the base from one of his griefing runs and found an unkown player attempting to grief the base they spotted each other and crystal pvp ensued, Javazon came out victorious after killing the unknown player dropping a whole bunch of shulkers in the process. The base was spared but at the cost of some damage to Java's Palace. Javazon took his gear and shulkers and used them to grief other base across the server. The Base wouldn't really be griefed for the next 2 years other than the occasional looter stealing items as it wasn't uncommon due to its close proximity to spawn. The damage done to Java's palace was repaired over the course of a couple months. By 2025 the base had sort of become this open secret to the community but it wouldn't last for long. On April 15th, 2025 the base was utterly annihilated by the player Joson every single build was hit the damage was to great and Tangoooooooo just couldn't bring himself to rebuild it anymore so it was left in ruins for the final time. In the end 5 Griefers tried but only 1 suceeded. This base was proof that players from all backgrounds despite everything could come together and make something truly breathtaking.
