Chat's Law, occasionally referred to as the NotVsauce's Law,[citation needed]

known colloquially as Death of Chat or simply Dead Chat, is a possible repetition of events that regularly occur in many Discord server's general channel. It states that every 5 minutes, the chat goes silent, by the following minute, the chat will become "alive" again.[1] This proposal was only accepted by three people and was not qualified to be experimented in depth. It is thought that the number of minutes or the length of conversation before the silence is exaggerated and varies between servers and members, and the value may not be locked to 5 minutes or 6.

This proposed repetition of moments of silence is sometimes called the "NotVsauce's Law", crediting to its proposer, NotVsauce, which is a moderator from the Kurzgesagt Discord Server that came up with the law during a silent moment in the chat.[1] An article on Wikipedia was made in order to gain attention from people towards this proposal, as it allows prediction for when a chat will become silent. The article has failed.[citation needed]

As of December 31, 2021, there is not one person has ever proposed anything to solve or at least shine a light to the random occurrence of silence in Discord servers. Although there seems to be no proposal at all, there are some proposals prior to the proposal of "Chat's Law" that were put forward by other people from across the Discord community but they all do not fulfil the explanation for this repeating silence.[citation needed]

An observation of the chat seems to suggest that even the proposer himself had left his own proposal behind.[2]

History

Proposal

The whole history of the proposal of this law only spans for less than 1 minute.[1][2][3] The moderator NotVsauce came up with the idea that every 5 minutes the chat would go "dead", and every 6 minutes someone will arrive and restarts the conversation.[1]

Aftermath

As of December 31, 2021, there is no new proposal for the "dead chat" events in Discord servers. Although there seems to be no proposal at all, there are some proposals prior to the proposal of "Chat's Law" that were put forward by other people from across the Discord community but they all do not fulfil the explanation for this repeating silence.[citation needed]

The proposal wasn't accepted. An observation of the chat seems to suggest that even the proposer himself had left his own proposal behind.[2]
