Quarantine:2b2t Union

From 2b2t Uncensored

NOTE: This is a complete rewrite of the original 2b2t Union page.

The 2b2t Union's primary icon in August 2023

The 2b2t Union is a group that was formed to protest the administration's decisions during the 2023 update controversy, and received support from notable players as well as newer users. While the group was derided due to its unrealistically serious approach to a decision made on a Minecraft server, the 2b2t Union was able to achieve its goal by helping influence an administrative decision to undo such controversial updates.

Background

After six years of hosting the server on the older yet more optimized 1.12.2 version, the administration finally received the necessary tools to update 2b2t to 1.19.4 on August 14th, 2023. However, players were left with an unexpected surprise as various items, chunk trails, and blocks had disappeared from inventories and the world. X-ray no longer properly worked on the server, while several cheat modules such as antiKnockback, healthTags, and forced critical hits were patched for the first time in the server's history. Chunks that have received little to no interaction were deleted, oddly juxtaposing brand-new biomes next to ancient terrain both in the overworld and the nether. Several of these additions were unexpectedly announced alongside the 1.19.4 update, causing outrage amongst a portion of the 2b2t community. Many believed that the update had breached the anarchic ideals the server has upheld over the past decade, causing several players to band together to vocalize their distaste for some of these changes. Save_G, a newer 2b2t player who despised such changes, founded the 2b2t Union to mobilize dissatisfied users.

Main Activities

The 2b2t Union at first, strongly relied on SalC1's video explaining his departure from the community to quickly gain members, eventually reaching several hundred within a few days of formation. Various YouTubers were encouraged to promote the 2b2t Union and their mission to undo the controversial changes of removing duplicated gear and items. Several aspiring content creators were encouraged to make videos in support for the group in exchange for publicity in the discord. Initial triumphs overall were most likely caused by mutual support between the 2b2t Union's leaders and content creators who were able to invite players to talk about their experiences on 2b2t, along with leijurv's suggestion for the administration to create a poll regarding the changes. While gaining outreach was successful, most of the group contained users that joined in 2020 or afterwards, while more experienced players tended to distance themselves from group activities due to a lack of organization and maturity within the 2b2t Union's Discord. Rusher Era and Pre-Rusher Era players were significantly less inclined to support the group directly regardless of support for the rollback mostly due to newer players controlling the majority of leadership positions.

Within a few days, the group reached up to 300 active members. In order to retain active membership, the administrative team hosted open forum sessions on their Discord to allow all kinds of players to speak about how the rollback has affected them to raise awareness and support for a server rollback. While these sessions were seemingly effective on paper, these sessions were misused by most players to promote factions and shops while complaining about certain players within the community. Most users who spoke joined during or after 2020. After garnering enough support, the 2b2t Union informed their Discord and content creators to vote on a poll managed by Hausemaster which discussed possible options regarding the server's update to 1.19. Players attribute the polls' success as due to the significant influence the group possessed, and a rollback without the item economy reset took place, with the final poll reaching 3,600 votes in favor.

Despite the Union's initial success, many believed this outcome solely took place due to vote-botting within the group. Additionally, the group's post-2020 majority userbase may have not reflected the general consensus of the 2b2t community. The 2b2t Union was also scrutinized for (indirectly or directly) encouraging players to issue chargebacks for Priority Queue which caused a number of accounts to be banned.

Post Rollback

Even though the 2b2t Union achieved their goal of undoing the controversial economy reset, the group began to shut down and die out afterwards, with several channels within the Discord either being deleted or locked. For a short period of time, the 2b2t Union attempted to convert itself to yet another spawn faction, but this goal failed. Today (as of December 2023), the 2b2t Union's Discord is no longer active, save for the occasional shit post being posted every day or two.

Known Members

While the group has received support from hundreds of 2b2t players, the Union's leading body consisted of select individuals who were either already known amongst the community or possessed strong leadership skills.

Save_G - The founder of the 2b2t Union. During the 2023 Update Controversy, Save_G primarily focused his attention on rallying the 2b2t user base on Discord, having been praised for his organization and leadership skills. However, some have remarked his tactics as unprofessional as time progressed, usually employing political references such as "make 2B2T great again" and encouraging users to flood a Reddit thread.

FreedomHolland - A group trustee who mainly organized hearings for users to speak and debate their opinions regarding the update. Holland relied on data-based findings to support his claims on how harmful the update is for the player base, having created a survey to back up claims of mass support.

Toska - A respected builder and leader of the 2b2t Union. Toska focused on navigating users through the priority queue refund process. This user was primarily praised for his effective measures by limiting income for server matinence, as well as preserving the legitimacy of the strike by admonishing radical attempts to DDoS, harass, or forcefully chargeback the 2b2t administration.

Peter_Rod - Responsible for community outreach and connections. Peter was able to link the Union with other independent strike supporters such as DonFuer and SalC1, and elevated several videos and Youtubers who criticized the changes.
